The technician app for a pest control company

A technician app is the screen field staff open in the morning to know where to go, in what order, and to confirm each job once it is done. In Atlas the technician opens a link of their own, sees only their own jobs for the day, ticks each one on site, and the office watches the status change in real time. Atlas does not take photos, does not produce reports and does not compute routes.

The day's route on the technician side. A ticked job reaches the office immediately.

What does the technician see when they open their workspace?

They see their jobs for the day, and nothing else. Not their colleagues' routes, not your customer list, not the company settings.

They see their day, in order, and nothing else. Each line carries the time, the job title, the customer, the address and the unit concerned, plus the pest being treated. Jobs placed on the full day with no set time appear too, because many inspections are planned that way.

What they do not see matters as much: other technicians' jobs, the full customer list and the company settings stay out of reach. They open the screen, they work, there is nothing to hunt for.

How does the technician confirm a job was completed?

They tick the job on site, in one tap. Atlas records their name and the time, with nothing to retype afterwards.

Atlas then records two pieces of information nobody has to retype, who ticked it and at what time.

Dated proof
the technician's name and the exact time, visible to the office, with no extra data entry.
Separate from status
a quick tap in the field never closes a file the office still considers open.
A failure stays visible
the reason is entered at the office, locked door, refusal or no access, it then shows on the technician's route and the job stays to be rescheduled.

What happens when there is no signal at all?

The technician workspace works offline. The route shows as it was last fetched, jobs are ticked normally, and everything reaches the office as soon as signal returns.

That is the normal state of this trade, not the exception. A large share of the work happens in building basements, crawl spaces, cellars, restaurant storerooms and underground parking, where there is not one bar of signal. An app that requires a connection becomes an error screen there, and the technician retypes the day in the truck at night, when they do not forget it altogether.

The route stays on the phone
Jobs, addresses, times, client name and unit number are kept for a week and show instantly, with no signal.
Ticked jobs are queued
They go to the server as soon as a bar returns, one at a time. Nothing is lost, and nothing unticks itself.
A banner tells the truth
It says the device is offline, when the route was last fetched, and how many visits are waiting to be sent. The technician never has to guess.
The app opens without a connection
It is stored on the device, interface included. In a basement you get your day, not the browser's error page.
One condition
Open the link once with signal, at the depot in the morning for instance. The day is covered from there.

One thing does not work offline, and it is better to know. Jobs added by the office while the technician is out of range only appear on their return, which the banner flags by showing when the route was last fetched.

Can you track a technician's pesticide certificate?

Yes. Their record holds the certificate number and its expiry date, the expiry shows in colour on the Technicians screen, and Atlas warns before it arrives.

In Quebec, applying a pesticide requires a certificate from the environment ministry, and it has an end date. An expired certificate is not an administrative detail, it is a technician who no longer has the right to treat and a company exposed at the first inspection or complaint. Nobody notices on the day itself, and renewal takes several weeks.

Two fields on the record
The number as printed on the card and the expiry date. Both optional, a company that does not need them leaves them empty.
Asked for at invitation
The invitation form offers them, clearly marked optional. A card not yet provided never blocks an invitation.
Expiry visible without opening the record
Green while valid, amber two months before, red once passed, with the number of days written next to it.
Only the office can change it
The certificate lives in the management space. A technician cannot edit it from their link, which only serves to read their route and tick jobs.
Atlas warns before the date
The technician and the account owner get an email two months ahead, then at closer intervals, and weekly while it stays expired. See automatic reminders.

How do you give a technician access?

You send them their personal link. No password to create, no app to install from a store.

There is no password to create and no app to download from a store, which removes the real obstacle in field crews, the install that never happens. The link carries a secret token that opens only that technician's workspace, with a double filter on their name and on the company account, so no data from another account is reachable.

The evening before, an email reminder goes out to confirmed technicians who have jobs the next day, in their own language.

What the app does not do

  • No photos or file attachments on a job
  • No generated job report and no document to hand to the customer
  • No optimized routing and no GPS navigation

Frequently asked questions

Does the technician have to install an app?

No. The technician workspace opens from a personal link in the phone's browser, with no app store install and no password to create.

Can a technician see their colleagues' jobs?

No. Their link only opens their own assigned jobs. Other technicians, the customer list and company settings are not reachable from their workspace.

Does it work without a good connection?

Yes, even with no bar of signal at all. The route is stored on the phone and shows offline, ticked jobs are queued then sent as soon as the connection returns. All it takes is opening the link once with signal, in the morning for instance.

Can the technician work in English?

Yes. The whole interface exists in French and English, and each technician picks their language. The reminder sent the evening before goes out in their language too.
